In this session we will look into some internals of Oracle background process communication and also some special types of wait events that most people aren’t aware of. We will use some exotic tracing for internals research and fun and some of this stuff is actually useful in real life too! I’m not going to reveal everything upfront, as this is a secret internals hacking session after all ;-) We will use various techniques to research what the “reliable message” wait event is about and how reliable background process communication is orchestrated in Oracle. This is a hacking session, not formal structured training, so I’ll just do free form demos and talk (probably no slides, just hacking stuff on the command line). SQL trace is an awesome performance tuning resource. But before you can do that analysis, you need to know WHERE your trace file is. ====================================================== Copyright © 2015 Oracle and/or its affiliates. So what is an SBC? Well, just as a firewall protects the data network, a Session Border Controller protects both the data and voice network when VoIP is integrated into the system. And with telecom fraud and PBX hacking on the rise, it’s important to keep your network secure. For most enterprises, it’s not a matter of if—but when—their network experiences an attack, potentially costing you valuable time and money. Watch this video and discover why it's important to own an SBC when using VoIP. Visit http://www.sangoma.com/sbc for more information on Session Border Controllers.

You will learn the need for connection pool and how it helps in optimizing resource utilzation on the Database Server. You will learn that Logon and Logoff are the most resource intensive tasks in a database, and hence both tasks should be avoided during normal operations of the application and database. Watch Oracle DB Session Activity With My Real-Time Session Sampler For details about this tool, I created a special posting in my blog, A Wider View. Have a look! http://blog.orapub.com/20140811/Watch-Oracle-DB-Session-Activity-With-The-Real-Time-Session-Sampler.html The rss.sql tool is included in the OraPub System Monitor (OSM) toolkit (v13j), which can be downloaded http://resources.orapub.com/OSM_OraPub_System_Monitor_p/osm.htm Watching session activity is a great way to diagnose and learn about Oracle Database tuning. There are many approaches to this. I wanted something simple, useful and modifiable. I wanted no Oracle licensing issues. And, I wanted something I could give away. The result is what I call the Oracle Real-Time Session Sampler (OSM: rss.sql). The tool is simple to use. Based on a number of filtering command line inputs, it repeatedly samples active Oracle sessions and writes the output to a file in /tmp. You can do a "tail -f" on the file to watch session activity in real time!
